Thomas Vermaelen's move to Barcelona from Arsenal is confirmed

The Belgian defender moves to the Nou Camp after five years at the Emirates.

In that time, Vermaelen became club captain at Arsenal but also lost his place in the side to Per Mertesacker. Vermaelen completed his medical earlier on Saturday and becomes the latest Arsenal player to move to Catalunya, following the likes of Cesc Fabregas - who has since returned to the Premier League with Chelsea - Alex Song and Thierry Henry.
