Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee with Everton for the transfer of South African midfielder Steven Pienaar.
The 28-year old had been linked with a number of European clubs, including Chelsea in recent weeks, while Everton revealed that they had accepted an offer for the player from an unnamed club last Friday.
Spurs have emerged as favourite to secure his signature, however, after agreeing a fee with Everton for the 55-times capped South African international.
The fee is believed to be around £3million (€3.6 million) and Pienaar is believed to favour joining Spurs rather than Chelsea, with whom he failed to agree personal terms.
Pienaar was withdrawn from the Everton squad for Sunday’s Merseyside derby after informing Toffees boss David Moyes that he was not in the correct mental state to play the game.
Speaking about Pienaar at the weekend, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said: "Pienaar is a good player."
He added: "He can play left or right or down the middle. I like him. I would not be urging the chairman, I would not want to be putting the chairman under any pressure to buy Pienaar, but at £2m-£3m, he's certainly not dear, is he? Would Everton sell him for that? I don't know. David Moyes wants to keep him and I don't blame him."
Pienaar’s contract at Goodison Park is up in the summer and Everton are keen to cash in now instead of losing him on a free transfer in the summer.
