The papers seem more preoccupied with Gus Poyet’s dismissal on national television last night than their usual transfer speculation, but here is a round-up of the rumour mill.

We’ll start with the agony aunt Tony Adams who has been giving a bit of life advice to Wayne Rooney. Arsenal have been linked with the striker for quite some time, but Adams thinks the bright lights of London would crack the player up. So he says in The Daily Star anyway.

The protracted move of Gonzalo Higuain should be wrapped up this week, while The Daily Express say that Arsene Wenger is still keen on Swansea’s Ashley Williams.

Celtic’s Victor Wanyama is a man in demand. The Bhoy’s midfielder had a brilliant season last time out for the Hoops and his performances in the Champions League didn’t go unnoticed. The Daily Mail say that newly promoted Cardiff City are prepared to pay £10 million for the Kenyan, while The Daily Mirror also says Southampton are interested. Though the same paper says that Wanyama is one of three players about to turn down a move to St. Mary’s.

We just hope Mauricio Pochettino isn’t too sensitive as Wanyama, Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan and Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo not too keen on a move to the south coast. It is believed the club put in an offer of a cool £15 for Nainggolan, but no joy.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Steve Bruce works in mysterious ways with his cheque book. The Daily Mirror says that he wants to spend £2.3 million to bring Curtis Davies to Hull from Birmingham. Oh Brucie, will you ever learn?

Paulninho looks to be set to seal his £15 million move to Spurs, Djibril Cisse is running out of the QPR exit door with Montpellier on his sights and Arouna Kone is at the heart of a £5 million tug-of-war between Norwich City and Everton.
