Transfer Talk: Moyes not spending, Tottenham’s striker hunt and John Terry to leave Chelsea?

Looks like it is going to be a quiet month at Old Trafford…

Looks like it is going to be a quiet month at Old Trafford…

If you happen to speak to any Manchester United fan these days you will hear them crying out for a few signings. A centre-half, a creative midfielder, a top-class winger; all mentioned on potential shopping lists down the pub but it seems the man who could make it happen, David Moyes, isn’t going to splash the cash.

The Scot gave an interview to the Sunday People today where he speaks about United’s transfer plans this month. Well, their lack of transfer plans this month more like.

Asked about signings this month he said: “I don’t think so. I think most of the business will be more towards the summer rather than January.”

Moyes could be trying to dampen expectations and keep prices down or he may not have any funds available to make any transfers that would improve the squad. Whatever the reason, we can’t imagine many United fans will be too happy this morning reading this.

Another fan base who will be sore this morning is Tottenham’s. After exiting the FA Cup last night at the hands of arch-rivals Arsenal, the focus will again turn to improving their league position and making that all important top four.

The People report that they fancy Juve pair Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella to bolster their strike force. With Jermain Defoe Toronto-bound, they need somebody.

The oddest story in today’s rumours concerns Chelsea stalwart John Terry. The Mirror report that Galatasaray fancy the defender and are willing to splash £10million to get him. The report says the approach won’t be made until the summer but even with old mate Didier Drogba there, we can’t see Terry leaving Stamford Bridge for Turkey.

Elsewhere, there’s lots of other new rumours knocking about. The Sun reckon Ricky Lambert could make an £8m switch from Southampton to West Ham, the Mirror say that Luis Saurez’s release clause is now up to £70m and Rafa Benitez wants to take Juan Mata on loan at Napoli.

And in a move we really, really, really hope happens, the Star reckon Mario Balotelli wants to go back to the Premier League, this time with Chelsea.

Finally, Arsenal might be about to make a signing, but at the opposite end of the pitch to where it was expected. Reading stopper Alex McCarthy is being targeted by Arsene Wenger to be back up to Wojciech Szczesny. Newcastle are also in the hunt for McCarthy though, according to the Mirror.
