Transfer Talk: Rooney’s sweet deal, PSG bid for Januzaj and Chelsea look to nab Costa

Once again, two clubs dominate the back pages, with the focus chiefly on Manchester United.

Once again, two clubs dominate the back pages, with the focus chiefly on Manchester United.

With the Juan Mata frenzy now over, you may have thought that rumours regarding Manchester United would have slowed down. Instead, if anything, they have speeded up. Hot on the heels of the Spaniard’s arrival, it seems a host of other business is going on at Old Trafford. Edward Woodward musn’t be getting any sleep.

And, if The Sun is to be believed, a certain Wayne Rooney is burning the midnight oil too. They say that in a bid to keep the striker sweet and at the club, the powers that be are keeping him in the loop on big transfer business, like Mata, so that he knows the future is bright at Old Trafford. Ferguson, famously, told him that all he had to worry about was playing well but the new regime are so anxious to keep Rooney that they are granting him inside knowledge.

In other ‘let’s keep Wayne happy’ news, the Mirror say he will be offered £300,000 a week if he stays plus the captaincy. Whatever you might think of Rooney and his management team, they do one hell of a job when it comes to contract talks.

But that’s not all the United gossip. Oh no. The Metro say that Bayern’s Toni Kroos and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus could be on the way while The Telegraph say that David Moyes will have to fight off Chelsea to get his hands on Southampton’s Luke Shaw.

And in the final, but probably the most bizarre bit of United gossip today, the Guardian report that PSG tried to buy Adnan Januzaj this month. The bid was rejected, but PSG have very deep pockets and surely won’t give up that easily. In slightly related, and even madder news, Italian paper La Stampa reckon that the Parisians are lining up a €250m bid for Lionel Messi too.

In other news, the Express reckon that Chelsea have a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid to take hot shot striker Diego Costa in the summer, the Star reckon Manchester City will try and nab Bacary Sagna from Arsenal while the Metro say that Julian Draxler’s club Scahlke have ‘softened their stance’ about selling him to the Emirates, whatever that means.

Finally we have the curious case of Dani Osvaldo. The striker has never really settled at Southampton and after a fight in training last week that left team-mate Jose Fonte with a black eye, it looks like this particular Saint will be marching on. West Ham, of course, are in the running (Daily Mirror) but it looks more likely that he will head back to Italy, where the Telegraph say that  Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Juventus all want him.
