Following Georgia’s stunner against MonKeano’s lads  in Tbilisi last night, we look back on some of the great goals scored against the Boys in Green down through the years…

David Forde dejected after Georgia's goal 7/9/2014

Let’s start with that goal by Tornike Okriashvili which flew and dipped into the top corner of David Forde’s goal…

Ireland lost 2-0 to Brazil in a friendly at the Emirates back in 2010 in what was a pretty dull game, but Robinho’s goal came after some beautiful build up play. Where was that during the World Cup?

Patrick Kluivert broke Irish hearts at Anfield on a November night in 1995, when his two goals saw the Dutch progress to Euro ’96 via the playoffs. His finish for the second goal was just sublime…

More playoff heartache in 1997, as Belgium Ireland on away goals to qualify for the World Cup in France. This Luc Nilis goal in the first leg at Lansdowne Road earned the Belgian a 1-1 draw and they went on to win the second leg 2-0. Some left foot on Nilis…

One of the most humiliating nights in recent history was the 6-1 home defeat to Germany at the Aviva during World Cup 2014 qualifying.

Fair enough, the Germans went on to win the World Cup, but Ireland let themselves down badly on the night. The pick of the goals was this volley by Toni Kroos…

Barcelona and Spain were lauded as the creators of tiki-taka football, but Cyprus were also at it circa 2008. Well, they were at it against ROI at least.

Their fourth goal during the 5-2 win over Ireland was up there with anything Barca have done… sort of. We’re still pretty embarrassed about all this by the way:

Speaking of humiliation, remember Euro 2012? Yeah, so do we. Spain were at the peak of their powers in that tournament and sadly they ripped Ireland to shreds, but you have to marvel at David Silva’s goal in the second half…

Thierry Henry…

The Republic of Ireland’s World Cup ’94 qualifying game against Northern Ireland is well remembered for Alan McLoughlin’s late strike which saw ROI go to the States the following summer.

We can still hear George Hamilton shouting “McLoughlin, it’s there” but what you might have forgotten is that Jimmy Quinn scored an absolute belter for Northern Ireland…

Any hopes the Republic had of making the World Cup in Brazil during the summer were dashed when David Alaba did this against us. The goal mightn’t have been the most spectacular, but it was last minute and clutch…

And last but not least, this is probably the best goal that’s been scored against us in recent times. Kazakhstan’s Dmitri Shomko’s absolute cracker in the World Cup qualifiers…

Let’s hope we don’t see too many goals fly in during Euro 2016 qualifying. Any goals we missed here? Make sure to comment below or send us a tweet.
