Plenty of footballing sons fail to live up to the standard set by their famous fathers, but Rivaldo’s son has little to worry about if recent evidence is anything to go by.
Some footballing sons turn out to be just as good as their fathers (Paulo Maldini) while some don’t quite live up to the expectation (Jordi Cruyff). Judging by the goal in the video above, Rivaldo’s son looks likely to fall into the former category.
Rivaldo’s young fella – imaginatively titled Rivaldinho – scored quite the spectacular bicycle kick while in action for Brazilian club Mogi Mirim’s under-17s against Uniao Sao Joao recently.
It’s an outstanding effort in its own right, but it’s uncanny when compared to his father’s near-identical effort for Barcelona against Valencia and also fairly obvious that Daddy has been passing on some tricks of the trade.
It wasn’t quite as important as his father’s goal, mind. Rivaldo’s stunning bicycle kick (see below), the third goal of a hat-trick, helped beat Valencia 3-2 in the last minute of the last game of the season in 2001, a win which earned Barcelona a place in the following season’s Champions League.
Rivaldinho’s effort, meanwhile, put his side into a 5-0 lead, but that shouldn’t take away from what was an unbelievable effort.
Check Rivaldinho's effort out in the video at the top of the page and see for yourself the startling resemblance in technique between two generations of the Rivaldo family.
