Video: Captain Morgan expertly puts this 2014 Tournament ball through its paces

They’re calling it the most tested ball ever...

They’re calling it the most tested ball ever…

Say hello to the recently-released, brand new 2014 Tournament football, a super spherical specimen that you’re certainly going to be seeing a lot of this Summer.

The cool new ball has six panels, a selection of sexy samba colours and the imagery on its side represents Brazilian wish-bracelets. In fact, every child in Brazil born on December 3 will get one of the brand new balls, a nod to the tradition of every Brazilian child being born with a ball at their feet.

*JOE frantically checks birth certificate to see if we’re Brazilian*

We’re not, unfortunately.

Traditionally, summer Tournament footballs have been accused of being too light, of doing some very strange things in the air and generally being unfair to goalkeepers. Because of this, the balls unsurprisingly go through rigorous amounts of testing using state of the art equipment and high-tech machinery, with some of the beautiful game’s most skillful superstars no doubt offering their own expert words of wisdom.

We here at JOE, however, laugh in the face of “state of the art equipment” and we most certainly poo-poo the idea of “high-tech machinery” because, as far as we’re concerned, there’s only one definitive football test that really matters – the Captain Morgan test. Which involves giant cannons. On the beach.
