Scoring screamers is something we’ve come to expect of Diego Forlan. John Obi Mikel? Eh, not so much.
The Chelsea midfielder might get a nose bleed every time he crosses the halfway line at Stamford Bridge but he should be getting into the opposition box more often if the evidence of last night is anything to go by, as he showed a brilliant turn of foot and great composure to equalise for Nigeria last night after Diego Lugano had given Uruguay the lead in another entertaining Confederations Cup encounter.

Unfortunately for Mikel, he had the limelight stolen away from him by the brilliant Diego Forlan, who saw Mikel’s strike and raised him an even better effort off his trusty left foot, hammering home from just inside the box for a brilliant goal to mark his 100th appearance for his country.
