Our games of ‘red arse’ with our mates up on the local pitch never looked this good
Red arse (or Blasties, as it’s sometimes known) is a game that is as old as time itself, rumoured to have been invented by the sheer force of the universe in an event which is sometimes known as the Big Bang. The adonis-like aquamen of the lost city of Atlantis famously used to play this game, and that tradition has carried all the way down to today.
Its most noted proponent and the most decorated player in history was of course former US President John Quincy Adams, who used his sizeable sports star wage to run for President, and would regularly challenge other election candidates to a game of red arse instead of a political debate. These facts are all true.
We never knew of its value as part of a training regime however, until Royal Antwerp, a second division Belgian side, came up with the concept of putting some very lovely ladies in their smalls in goal to get their players to focus on hitting a target. In the video, you can see squad members Joren Dom, Derreck White and Adrian Brovina try their hand (feet) at the ancient game.
In reality, the clip was actually filmed for a game show, but it managed to get some traction on social media as stupid people on the internet got outraged, which is really weird and out of character for all of them. The lads aren’t hitting the ball too hard though, and the ladies seem to be pretty good sports.
Of course, don’t they all have lovely bottoms…
