Scoring a hat-trick in front of 90,000 fans is some way to introduce yourself to your new club, a feat managed by former League of Ireland striker Eamon Zayed last night.

The Dublin native, ex of Bray, Drogheda, Sporting Fingal and Derry City, struck all three goals for his new club Perepolis in the Tehran derby against Esteghal in only his second game for the club.

It wasn’t just any game either. The Tehran derby has been described as the most important derby in Asia and was once listed as the 22nd most important derby in the world by World Soccer magazine. Sort of like the Iranian Old Firm if you will. 90,000 hysterical fans attended the game live, while over 20 million watched it on television as Perepolis went on to win 3-2.

The goals weren’t half bad either. The first one was a lovely Henry-esque curler into the far corner, followed by a well-taken close range header and Zayed wrapped up the hat-trick with a lovely turn and expertly taken finish from close range. Check them all out for yourself in the video above.

Richard Dunne mightn’t roll of the tongue in Beijing, but you can be damn sure that Eamon Zayed is a household name across the Asian continent this morning.

Start as you mean to go on Eamon.
