Lionel Messi has had such a ridiculous career to date that he has almost ran out of records to break, but he smashed another one at the weekend when his hat-trick took him to 21 career goals in El Clasico matches, beating the previous record of 18 – which he had already equalled – held by Real Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano since 1964.
Messi reached that landmark figure in just 27 matches and considering that he is still only 26 and Barca and Real play each other quite often these days, he is likely to increase that tally quite significantly by the time he hangs up his boots.
As you’d expect from Messi, there are all sorts of goals in here, from penalties to free-kicks to stunning individual efforts and clever finishes, with arguably the best of the lot coming in the Champions League encounter between the sides at the Bernabeu in 2011.
