It might be time for French sports minister Valerie Fourneyron to get onto YouTube and search for ‘real Ronaldo’. If she does, not only will she see great stuff like this…

But she would also realise that the faux pas she made yesterday was very bad indeed.

While visiting the Brazilian embassy in Paris, Fourneyron was on hand to introduce the footballing legend, but she called him Cristiano Ronaldo instead of, well, Ronaldo.

There is an audible gasp of shock in the crowd and even Ronaldo’s face betrays a certain hurt...

An assistant stepped in and Fourneyron quickly corrected her mistake – she afterwards blamed the gaff on ‘tiredness’ – but it breaks our collective hearts here to see Ronaldo having to say ‘I’m not Portuguese’.
