Not for the squeamish this one…

Not for the squeamish this one…

Goalkeepers know that their job description involves putting their bodies on the line every now and again; the game has a long way since Bert Trautmann played in the FA Cup Final with a broken neck but every now and again they have to be brave and be prepared to face the consequences.

The consequences were pretty grim for FC Luzern ‘keeper David Zibung when he went to ground to try and prevent Izet Hajrovic from scoring a third goal for Grasshoppers last night, as he took Hajrovic’s boot and all of his studs in the face after blocking the ball with his foot.

It doesn’t actually look that bad in real time but the close up of the blood streaming from Zibung’s face gives you an idea of the impact Hajrovic’s boot made and the slow-mo replay confirms just how nasty it was.

If you’re a bit squeamish or if blood makes your stomach turn we suggest you avoid watching the video above; needless to say Zibung will be bearing the battle scars from this particular encounter for some time.
