Video: Have you ever imagined what it would be like if Ciaran McDonald was right-footed?

He’s renowned for having one of the sweetest left pegs the GAA has ever seen, but have you ever wondered what it would be like if Mayo legend Ciaran McDonald was right-footed? Wonder no more.

He’s renowned for having one of the sweetest left pegs the GAA has ever seen, but have you ever wondered what it would be like if Mayo legend Ciaran McDonald was right-footed? Wonder no more.

As a Mayo man, this reporter might be slightly biased but it is hard to think of any player in the recent history of the GAA with as sweet a left foot as Ciaran McDonald.

Padraic Joyce would certainly be up there, James Kielt is making a name for himself in Derry and the Gooch is an obvious choice but there were few who failed to appreciate the sumptuous outside of the boot passes and scores that the man from Crossmolina made his trademark throughout his time in green and red.

With that in mind, some would call it sacrilegious to imagine what he would be like as a right-footer but Mayo man Ruaidhri Hallinan has done just that, flipping a video of some of his best highlights around to make it appear as if all of the magic came from his right foot, including THAT last-gasp point against Dublin in the 2006 All-Ireland semi-final.

It’s a strange concept but somehow it works and besides, fans of Gaelic Football, especially those from Mayo, should need no excuse to have another look at the highlight reel of one of the greats, even if it might not be exactly how we remember him.

Hat-tip to Ruaidhri Hallinan for sending this one into us. Ruaidhri is now in with a shot of winning €250 by the end of the month.
