JOE’s Oisin Collins is currently on his way to Frankfurt to check out The Lidl Fan Cup, which you can play on Facebook, so we thought we’d show you what it’s all about first.

With the World Cup finally underway it’s safe to say that there’s a fairly hefty dose of football fever currently doing the rounds. While it’s great watching the games on TV, nothing beats getting stuck in and a playing a bit of footie for yourself, even if it’s just a video game. That’s where Lidl’s latest ingenious Facebook app called The Lidl Fan Cup comes in very handy.

Basically players in Ireland (or anywhere in the world) can play in The Lidl Fan Cup using Facebook and play against REAL people in other countries. The actual “Fan Cup Arena” is based in Frankfurt and it has been kitted out with 50 specially designed foosball tables that have all the competitors playing against each other.

The aim of the game is to position your foosball striker in the correct position to score a goal, while your competitor does the same for their goalkeeper. The best of three goals wins. It’s that simple…

It’s a very cool and seriously addictive game and you can have a go for yourself over on the Lidl Ireland Facebook page.

Make sure to keep an eye out on the JOE Twitter account today, Friday 13, for live updates from The Lidl Fan Cup Arena.

Now, without further ado, here’s a look at the making of The Lidl Fan Cup…
