Firstly, we apologise for the music in this video. We genuinely have no idea why this peach of a goal is inflicted with such dire music.

Now, onto the goal. This evening, Iraq were playing Uruguay in the U20 World Cup semi-final. Iraq’s run the this stage is something of a fairytale story. Spain, Portugal, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, England and Nigeria have all gone home but Iraq are still there, probably because of an amazing team spirit fostered by their coach Hakeem Shakir.

Iraq were expected to lose to Uruguay but they took the lead in extraordinary fashion when Ali Adnan curled in this amazing free-kick with his left peg. Ronaldinho would have been proud of how he capitalized on a goalkeeper cheating just a little too much the other way.

Sadly for Iraq, Uruguay equalised with just two minutes to go and after a scoreless extra-time the South Americans won the shoot-out 7-6…
