The manner and significance of yesterday’s defeat to Swansea left many a Man City fan distraught, but one poor chap got a little bit carried away by the emotion of it all.
It’s OK to shed a tear because of football in some cases – Ireland’s play-off defeat to France in Paris in 2009 and the heartbreaking penalty shoot-out exit to Spain in the 2002 World Cup are two examples where crying was an acceptable reaction – but only on very rare occasions.
And we’re afraid that crying when your team loses a match but are still within one point of the league leaders with ten games left in the season doesn’t qualify as a situation where one has free will to turn on the waterworks.
Those were the circumstances at the Liberty Stadium yesterday, however, when one Manchester City fan got unbelievably upset at his side’s defeat to a magnificent Swansea side, a reaction that was caught for posterity and what will surely be the unending embarrassment of the fan in question by the television cameras.
Upset and all as he probably still is at the defeat, he's probably more concerned this morning about how to deal with the inevitable relentless pestering from his mates.
God help him if any of them are United fans.
