Video: Mexican striker scores great goal but collides horribly with the post in the process

That’s gotta hurt.

That’s gotta hurt.

It is often said of a tough and courageous footballer that they would put their head where others wouldn’t put their boot, but smashing one’s head violently against the goalpost doesn’t quite fall into that category.

Unfortunately, it happened to Javier Orozco of Mexican side Santos Laguna in a clash with Toluca recently, when after taking the ball down with a superb touch, he lifted the ball over the advancing opposition ‘keeper and collided with a retreating Toluca defender as he nodded the ball into the net.

That collision propelled him into the goalpost at quite a serious speed and he was clearly in agony directly afterwards. Although he did carry on, he had to be substituted when it was obvious that he was still clearly groggy a few minutes later.

It was later revealed that he had concussion, so memories of the goal and the game itself might not be very clear in his head, but he can take some consolation in the fact that this probably isn’t the worst instance of a footballer colliding with a goalpost, isn’t that right Phil?
