Video: No one does emergency braking quite like Volvo

It’s tough stopping a car that weighs 1.5 tonnes in an emergency situation, so you can imagine what it’s like trying to stop a fully loaded HGV weighing 36 tonnes.

The guys over at Volvo’s truck and heavy-goods division have been working hard to create an emergency braking system that will stop a fully loaded HGV in only a few feet. We have to say, what they’ve come up with is really impressive.

The video above shows a test driver behind the wheel of a ‘fully loaded’ (we’ll have to take their word) Volvo FH. The test driver then gets to experience Volvo’s ‘Collision Warning with Emergency Brake system’, which can avoid a rear end collision, even if its tight.

The results really are impressive. Even when they tested out the emergency break with a real car, the truck manages to stop in time. At least it’s making HGVs safer.
