Video: On Roberto Baggio’s birthday, sit back and appreciate one of the best first touches of all time

If the touch alone isn’t good enough, that’s a young Andrea Pirlo playing the not-too-shabby through ball over the top.

If the touch alone isn’t good enough, that’s a young Andrea Pirlo playing the not-too-shabby through ball over the top.

Much like February 5 – the birthday of Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Adnan Januzaj and Gheorge Hagi – today is something of a landmark date when it comes to footballer’s birthdays, with Robert Baggio, Gary Neville and, eh, Anton Ferdinand all having cause for celebration today.

From an aesthetic and style point of view, it is the 47th birthday of the Divine Ponytail that we are most interested in celebrating and rather than revisiting some of his more spectacular goals, being shut out by Paul McGrath at USA ’94 or penning an ode to the ponytail itself, we decided to have a look back at a goal he scored during his Brescia days after one of the best first touches you’ll ever see (see clip above) as long as you watch football.

That’s pure football porn right there. Happy birthday Roberto.
