The Portuguese appeared to have disappeared off the face of the earth for a few years, but he’s enjoying something of a revival of late.
Unfortunately for Quaresma, he’s known to many football fans as something of a luxury footballer, a man who had undoubted potential but failed to deliver on it on a consistent basis despite the odd spectacular goal or two.
And he’s been scoring a few of those spectacular goals of late, following up a beautiful effort in the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this year with a fine solo effort in the same competition against Napoli last night.
Having first showed brilliant feet to evade would be tacklers in the area, Quaresma then fired a left foot effort to the roof of the net that Pepe Reina hadn’t a hope of keeping out, a goal that secured Porto’s passage to the quarter-finals.
