A young defender from the Austrian Bundesliga has found himself going viral on the internet today for all the wrong reasons
Your first game in the senior side should be a thing of real pride for a footballer, but it’s also easy to see how you could get very worked up and excited about the game, and possibly go on to the pitch a little too psyched up.
That seems to be what happened to young Rapid Vienna defender Maximilian Hofman, who conceded a penalty and was shown a red card after hacking down an opponent just 47 seconds into his first game on the opening weekend on the season.
That’s not a good start by any stretch of the imagination, and although Rapid won the game 4-2 (you can watch the video for full highlights) it might still be considered one of the worst debuts ever.
We certainly remember that an honorable mention must go to Jonathan Woodgate, who was sent off and scored an own goal in his debut for Real Madrid (albeit not when he was making his professional debut), and given the cinematic treatment here, it’s even more memorable. That said, the second yellow is soft, at best.
