Yes it’s a tad unfortunate and a pity for the parties involved, but there are few things more entertaining on a baseball field than two players crashing into each other while running flat out.
That was the fate that befell poor Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler of the Colorado Rockies during their game with the Washington Nationals in Denver last night when the pair of them got their wires crossed while chasing a fly ball by Ryan Zimmerman during the sixth inning.
Gonzalez seemed to realise the impending doom just as the ball was about to land but there was no stopping Fowler at that point and what resulted was a fairly calamitous collision which allowed Zimmerman earn a double with little or no difficulty whatsoever.
It was a bad night for all around for the Rockies as they ended up losing 5-1 on home turf but while that will be forgotten about in a hurry, chances are we’ll be seeing the collision in baseball blooper reels for years to come.
