What started out as a confrontation between two players ended up as an all out brawl with fans, managers and firearms
Tragedy was averted in the Chilean city of Los Angeles after a football match ended in an all out brawl where gunshots were fired into the crowd.
The match was between two amateur teams, Magallanes and Basilio Muñoz, but you would be forgiven for thinking that the stakes were higher given the reactions of players, fans and management.
Two players clash after a seemingly innocuous challenge, and after the Magallanes player kicks out at the man who fouled him, things take a very nasty turn. A few kicks and punches are thrown, but the whole match itself was abandoned after one of the management team of Magallanes whipped out a gun and fired off a few shots as the brawl got bigger.
According to The Guardian, police made three arrests (we’re presuming one was the manager who fired the shots), while others involved in the brawl fought using knives, machetes and one fire extinguisher. Chilean officials dubbed the incident “regrettable”.
