Video: Was there a ghost on the pitch at the German Cup final at the weekend?

Probably not, but this is still pretty weird all the same.

Probably not, but this is still pretty weird all the same.

Football players often talk about being inspired by the twelfth man (i.e. the crowd) during matches, but Borussia Dortmund might want to investigate whether Bayern Munich had an actual twelfth man on the pitch during their victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side in the German Cup Final at the weekend.

Well, not an actual twelfth man as such, but a ghost that was spotted on television cameras during the final in Berlin on Saturday, with Bayern emerging as 2-0 winners to add the domestic cup to the Bundesliga title they had secured earlier in the season.

The supposed ‘ghost’ only makes an appearance for a few seconds, but, helped by the red circle and slow-motion replay, you can definitely spot something amiss at the left side of the screen, although its presence didn’t appear to bother Javi Martinez, who practically runs into it before it disappears into thin air.

Those with a greater knowledge of television and editing equipment than JOE might be able to explain how such an anomaly came about, but it’s hardly as if the ghost in question was causing any sort of disturbance in any case, merely getting into the spirit of the occasion.
