Dynamo Moscow defender and captain, Vladimir Granat was punched by a Zenit fan yesterday as the match between the clubs was abandoned.

The match between Zenit St Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow was abandoned yesterday due to some serious fan trouble. A Zenit supporter ran on to the pitch and launched a haymaker in the direction of the Russian international, Granat (pic below). Thankfully, the punch didn’t properly land, but the intent was there.

Serbia v Russia - International Friendly

Ugly scenes marred the game as Zenit fans poured on to the pitch with two minutes of normal time still to play as their team was losing 4-2. They were angry as the scoreline put Lokomotiv Moscow firmly in the driving seat for the Russian Premier League title. Lokomotiv trailed Zenit by one point before yesterday’s game and with two games to go they were fancied to beat Rostov to overtake Zenit in the table.

However, Rostov beat Lokomotiv meaning Zenit remain on top with two games to go, but a lot will depend on how the Russian FA react to the violence yesterday and the threat of sanctions and punishments looms large for AVB’s men.
