Vine: Per Mertesacker atones for his mistake with an equaliser against Wigan

After giving away a penalty, this goal meant a lot to the big German

Arsenal found themselves behind thanks to a penalty from Jordi Gómez after a poor tackle from Per Mertesacker, and with their first trophy in years on the line, they needed a big performance to get back in the game.

The German wasn’t going to let that get his head down though, and as Arsenal ramped up the pressure, it was beginning to look like a goal was inevitable. A fine save from Scott Carson coupled with a fantastic goal-line clearance kept Wigan’s advantage alive, but Arsenal remained camped in Wigan’s half, eventually getting the reward for their efforts through Mertesacker, who atoned for his mistake with a vital goal.

He seemed pretty happy afterwards too.
