Vine: The Sevilla ‘keeper was fond of stealing a few yards during the Europa League Final penalty shoot-out

Beto was the hero as Sevilla claimed the Europa League title on penalties this evening, even if he didn’t exactly play by the rules.

The Sevilla netminder saved spot-kicks from Cardozo and Rodrigo during the shoot-out and with all four of his team-mates holding their nerve from 12 yards, it was the La Liga side that got the glory after a fairly decent game ended 0-0 after 120 minutes in Turin.

Benfica didn’t complain but Beto wasn’t exactly following the rule that requires a goalkeeper to stay on his line until the kick is taken during the shoot-out, but with neither the referee nor his assistant pulling him up on it, it was hardly his fault that none of the kicks were re-taken…

Congratulations to Beto and to Sevilla, with the Europa League and Champions League titles set to be claimed by La Liga sides this season, it looks like Spain is the major power in European football once again.
