Met Éireann said possible impacts of the storm include fallen trees, damage to power lines and difficult travelling conditions.

The weather warnings come after the UK Met Office officially named Storm Darragh.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne, Met Éireann meteorologist Brandon Creagh said is it to be expected that Atlantic coastal counties will be the first to bear the brunt of the storm.

He also said the west of the country would get some heavy onshore waves, which could cause coastal flooding.
