Wrestler Darren Young has broken new ground in the macho world of the WWE by publicly announcing that he is gay.
Young, who is one half of the tag team duo the Prime Time Players, has said that he is gay and “very happy with his life and career”.
While this shouldn’t be particularly newsworthy in this day and age, the fact that he is the one of the first in the sport to publicly announce that he is gay, similar to American soccer player Robbie Rogers recently, it has raised a few eyebrows. Fellow wrestler Orlando Jordan has previously revealed that he is openly bi-sexual.
“I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay,” he told TMZ.
“I’m happy with who I am, I’m comfortable with myself, and I’m happy to be living the dream. I’m in L.A. for ‘SummerSlam’ with WWE.
“It’s very important to me that people understand that someone’s sexual preference shouldn’t really matter. It should be about the person.”
