We thought that Mayo fans showed great support for their team in 2012. This season they have already surpassed that.
After trailing blaze in Connacht and dismantling the All-Ireland champions last time out, Tyrone have the unenviable task of stopping the Mayo juggernaut this week. And the support for the men from the West is stretching wide and far.
It would be our educated guess that Michaella, Gillian and Lisa Walsh are not in fact of Muslim extraction – excuse our ignorance if we have got this badly wrong – but dressed in Abayas in front of the Abu Dhabi mosque they have provided perhaps the most cultural backing to Mayo in their quest for All-Ireland glory.
Should they see off the challenge of Mickey Harte’s team on Sunday, we expect even more pictures to add to the ‘Mayo For Sam’ bandwagon which is gathering serious, serious pace.
