“He dived ref!” – Parachutist bizarrely lands on football pitch in the middle of game

We've heard of clubs receiving parachute payments but this is ridiculous...

Now this is the proper way to pitch invade.

The Conference match between Salisbury City and Chester FC took a turn for the bizarre on Saturday when the game had to be halted after a parachutist landed in the middle of the pitch.

As both sets of players and their 1,000 fans watched on in astonishment, the mystery invader landed calmly in the middle of the pitch, collected his chute and strolled off the pitch, all to the sound of the crowd’s confused, warm applause.

Thankfully the ref halted the game following the airborne invasion and (we’re hoping) booked the diver for descent. Wahey!

Even more bizarrely, ex-Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham was on hand playing for Chester to witness the entire event:

Of course, at this point we could make some reference about Higginbotham and his career falling through the divisions faster than a man with no parachute, but that would just be cruel so we’re not going to.
