Sheffield Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric has said he would like to “look at” Ireland’s assistant manager for the vacant position at Hillsborough.

Not long into his new international role, the Cork man looks to be in demand from the former Portsmouth owner who has revealed his admiration for Keane.

The Owls last week sacked Dave Jones and Neil Warnock was being lined up until the supporters voiced their displeasure at the prospect of seeing the former Sheffield United boss take over.

Keane was of course out of management since getting the sack as Ipswich manager in January 2011 until he was chosen as Martin O’Neill’s assistant and Mandaric has said that if any contact is to take place he will go through the right channels.

“If I am going to do anything with Roy I will have to call the federation (FAI) and see if I can get a chance to talk to him,” Mandaric told The Sunday Times. “You have to go through the channels for something like that. I will probably look into that.”

“Roy took the job with Martin O’Neill so it would be difficult to move him out of there.

The Serb went on to praise the former Manchester United midfielder while adding it is something he will give further thought to.

“I would like to look at him. He has a superb personality and won promotion with Sunderland. I am going to look at the situation.”

You’d hope that Keane would not be turned by a club second from bottom in the Championship just two games into his Ireland position and as many online have suggested, Mandaric may well be drawing much-needed publicity to the vacancy.
