Will American consumers love Penneys as much as Irish consumers love Penneys? We’re soon about to find out.

One of the most well-known, popular and often beloved retail stores in Ireland will soon be attempting to make its mark across the giant pond to the west as Primark, who sell products in Ireland through the Penneys chain, have announced plans to expand to the US with the opening of a store in Boston.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner, Primark will open a 70,000 square feet store in the Burnham Building in central Boston before the end of 2015 and plan to open further outlets in the US by the following summer.

Primark, whose headquarters are in Dublin, was founded on Mary Street in the city in 1969 and having expanded to the UK two years later, the company now have 269 outlets across Europe and recently reported profits of over €360 million, a spicy meatball indeed.

The likes of Tesco and M&S have struggled to break the US market in recent times so whether Penneys will become a success remains to be seen, but if they roll out classic and instantly memorable adverts like the one below come the festive season, then surely they’ll be a hit with American consumers and Penneys’ move will make a lot of cents.
