Apparently the bank doesn’t agree with their career choice…
A couple of the biggest stars from the…ahem…’adult industry’ are having their accounts closed by a bank in the United States, which has been causing an uproar in the last few days.
According to XBiz.com (NSFW link), hundreds of letters have been sent out by the bank to workers in the adult industry regarding their accounts, with May 11th being the cut off date for them to get their affairs in order before they’re shown the (back) door. Teagan Presley (who no longer actually does porn, according to what she told VICE News, has been tweeting about the situation for the past few days:
Thank you for @Chase for closing my personal acct that Ive had since I was 18yrs old.I was w/ Washington mutual before you bought them out

She’s not alone in being short changed by the bank, as it seems that Layton Benton and Dakota Skye have both also been hit with a shot at their money, as it were.
@imDakotaSkye @DirectorJoshua @PerezHilton @Chase they closed my account too. pic.twitter.com/insFaTzHf9

According to Perez Hilton, there were similar problems last year when the same bank was denying loans for ‘moral reasons’, and this seems to be linked to that also. Of course, there’s no irony in the fact that a load of bankers (we said bankers) are judging the adult industry to be immoral.
According to VICE, it seems that Department of Justice in the States might well be behind this, with the poorly titled (given the industry they’re targeting) ‘Operation Choke Point’. The CEO of the American Banking Association, Frank Keating, added that the idea behind the move is for “banks to identify customers who may be breaking the law or simply doing something government officials don’t like” and then shut down their access to financial services.
For now, their accounts have been plugged up, with very little they can do about it.
