The former Footballer of the Year nominee has performed an about-turn.

Mark McHugh says he is available for selection for Donegal next year, having quit the panel in May after admitting he fell out of love with the game.

“I’m definitely looking to get back in but it’s not my call if I get back in, whoever the manager is – whether it’s Jim [McGuinness] or whoever it is,” he revealed at the launch of the Kilmacud Crokes FBD7s.

“I have to prove myself again like any other club player in Ireland. I have to perform in my club Championship. I love Donegal football and if I do get back, I’ll jump at the chance.”

It’s a marked turnaround from four months ago, when McHugh told Newstalk’s Off The Ball that he wasn’t enjoying his football and needed a break.

“It wasn’t a decision I made overnight. If I felt myself that I wasn’t a benefit to the Donegal team or I wasn’t enjoying life or my football, there was just no point me being there,” the 24-year-old said last May.

“I still love Donegal.

“It’s not that I’ve fallen out with anybody. I just made a decision on my own behalf, talked to people that I trust and I made the decision.”

Donegal take on Kerry in the All-Ireland Football Final at Croke Park on September 21st.
