5 ways your pet dog is much better than your girlfriend

The love of a pet pooch is a powerful thing

JOE

Having a doggie best friend can be a powerful experience.

For some, the relationship with your dog can be as meaningful as your bond with your better half, but a lot of the time these caring canines just don’t get the credit they deserve.

Here at JOE, we’ve gathered five important things to think about the next time your dog chews a shoe or poos on the carpet.

1. They look so goddamn good

The first thing to applaud about your canine companion is their flawless appearance.

Their soft silky hair and deep dark eyes always manage to look perfect, especially first thing in the morning. This can be a huge comforting blast of familiarity as herself may be unrecognisable without make-up or beauty sleep.

2. They love you… no matter what

Next up in the list of doggie delights is their loving nature. According to Sciencemag, a dog’s gaze has the power to instigate reciprocating feelings, creating a bond between the two of you, no shopping trips required.

With herself, simply staring at each other silently will inevitably lead to the line, “What the hell are you looking at? Have I got something on my face?”

Two up to the canine.

3. Their shaggy sense of humour

Is there anything funnier than watching your dog hump someone’s leg on introduction?

No. No, there is not.

That old gag never gets old.

Their carefree, nonchalant attitude can bring a smile to your face on the darkest of days and it’s just not the same kind of humour when your partner does the bold thing with someone else. We seldom find that funny.

Three points to the pet population.

4. They’re your best friend

Having a partner in crime to fill your days with memories and experiences is one of the best things about being part of a couple and who can provide more entertainment than your dog, bursting with enthusiasm?

It’s a tough one to compete with, but being able to lead every conversation without ever being interrupted or ignored is really the golden nugget of a canine companion.

4-0.

5. You’re smarter than them… probably

Feeling clever is a good feeling and we all have some days where the brain is dealing with a two second delay.

At times like this, a quick game of fetch should cheer you up pretty quickly. Watching that mutt run up and down the park after a tennis ball will make you so proud of your intelligence, you’ll go home feeling like Sheldon Cooper without the social awkwardness.

Of course, man’s best friend can’t fulfill all our needs and there are some times when having someone special in your life is just as important. Those times, of course, are usually whilst enduring The Fear.

There is nothing worse than The Fear.

As loving as your dog is, this is one battle they can’t win. Now is not the time for a walk, now is the time for a dirty fry, an understanding ear and some shared tales of drunken madness. Dogs don’t share rashers.
