The Beeb have responded.
It hasn’t exactly been a quiet weekend for BBC broadcasters during The Open as a few gaffe’s caused something of a social media storm on Twitter.
Mark James’ originally declared that Wicklow’s Paul Dunne was British and his effort to make amends by stating that ‘we like to be inclusive on the BBC‘ wasn’t exactly the best apology that I’ve ever heard but the furore didn’t end here.
Peter Alliss made an unfortunate remark that was aimed at Kim Barclay, Zach Johnson’s wife, moments before the American sized up the putt to win his play-off.
As the camera lingered on her, the broadcaster said “she is probably thinking – ‘if this goes in I get a new kitchen”.
The remark prompted a few dissenting responses on Twitter.

His remark prompted a BBC spokesperson to say, “Peter made a light hearted comment which was inappropriate and we apologise if anyone was offended.”
