Irish citizens can now purchase a smaller, handier passport card to replace the thick, miniature notepads we all carry around at the moment.
The new passports will cost €35 and will be valid for the next five years.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan has assuaged any fears that there’ll be problems with the new passport cards, telling RTÉ that the new cards are flexible, user-friendly and secure.
You can only use the cards to travel to thirty countries for the time being, all in Europe. However, smartphone users can download a passport app and take a passport-appropriate selfie to be uploaded as their passport photo.
