People heading into work / school / college / wherever their heart’s desired this morning were left with a bit of a rude awakening, just minutes after actually waking up.
In the relative fallout of the bus strike, DART and Dublin Bus services were also very heavily effected, with many services cancelled outright.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of people weren’t happy:
Today will go down in history as the day Irish people stopped saying “thank you” to the drivers every time we get off a bus #DublinBus

Whatever sympathy I had for the #buseireann strikers is gone after this morning’s stunt with #dublinbus & #irishrail without any notice!

Weren’t @dublinbusnews on strike already… And got a 13% payrise. They would seriously want to get a grip! #DublinBus #IrishRail

On the flip side, when stuff like this happens, it can really bring out the best in people.
I will not be doing call outs… but when I’m out later I will be happy to take stranded commuters standing at Bus Stops for lifts x

If anyone needs a lift to Thurles I’m leaving Stillorgan at 8pm #BeatTheStrike #Carpool #DublinBus #IrishRail

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport Shane Ross did release a statement saying that he was “actively monitoring developments”.
Which Twitter also had a bit of an opinion on…
My only conclusion is that Shane Ross must be spending the morning on Tweetdeck

Meanwhile, our award for the best reaction to the strike so far has got to go to Ryanair for this little gem:
