#TRAILERCHEST: Michael Bay reaches new level of Michael Bay in Transformers: The Last Knight

JOE

“To save our future, we must unlock the past…”

Welcome to #TRAILERCHEST, where we’re taking a look at the latest and possibly most explosionest Michael Bay film yet – Transformers: The Last Knight.

Plot’s it all about?

BREAKING NEWS: the humans and Transformers are at war again.

Without the talismanic Optimus Prime, Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) is forced to unlock the secrets of the past, recruit his old allies and save the world. Along the way, he needs the help of an Oxford academic (Laura Haddock – who previously shifted Will in The Inbetweeners Movie) and an English lord (Anthony Hopkins) as well as a plethora of government forces.

The trailer shows that the film is probably the Michael Bay-est of the whole saga, featuring robot alien dinosaurs, children hot-wiring cars and high-speed chases as Yeager and Bumblebee struggle to save their world, even at the cost of someone else’s…

With a ‘writer’s room’ led by Oscar-winning Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), the fifth Transformer’s film comes three years after Age of Extinction, and Bay has vowed (again) that this will be his final Transformers film.

Despite the movies coming in for criticism and not-so-favourable reviews in the past, the franchise is stupidly successful, earning returns of over $1.1 billion for the previous two installments.

Will Transformers: The Last Knight, and the two planned sequels, live up to that success?

We’ll just have to wait and find out, because the films aren’t out yet, obviously.

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock

Directed By: Michael Bay

Released: 22 June
