How long could you live it up?

€300 million may seem like a lot of money – mostly because it is. Still, it may not go as far as you’d think if you’re living the lifestyle of the super-rich.

So just how long would it last if you picked up some of these expensive habits?

Eating seriously expensive burgers

What is it? New York restaurant Serendipity 3 created a limited edition Le Burger Extravagant, which sold for a mouth-wateringly €260. It comes with Japanese Wagyu beef, white truffle butter, cave-aged cheese, shaved black truffles, a fried quail egg, caviar and a gold toothpick to remind you how much you just spent.

How long would €300 million last? You could actually eat two of these a day for 1581 years, although we don’t fancy your chances of living that long on a Superrich Me Supersize Me diet.

Cheaper alternative: Just buy all the most expensive burger ingredients in your local Lidl and whack them in a burger bun. You’ll still have change from a €50 quid note.

Staying in the world’s most expensive hotel

What is it? Dubbed the “world’s most expensive hotel,” The 13 in Macau is expected to open this year and rooms will reportedly cost around €80,000 a night.

How long would €300 million last? You could book a room for just over 10 years at that price but that’s not including the cost of eating or living. A bottle in the minibar will probably set you back an average industrial wage so you’ll be lucky to get a year of the high life before it’s back to normality.

Cheaper alternative: Just go into a rough area and let someone mug you and steal your wallet. It’ll save you a long flight.

Investing in art

What is it? Paintings, statues, conceptual pieces – you get the idea. So what will one of the big guns cost you? “Interchange” by Willem de Kooning is the most expensive painting ever sold and it cost €266 million in 2016.

How long would €300 million last? Well, if you go straight for “Interchange,” and factor in inflation, you’re not going to have too much change. Still, you can always splash out on a few limited edition prints to complete your collection.

Cheaper alternative: Stick a poster of an expensive painting in a frame. It’s basically the same thing with a lower house insurance premium.

Splashing out on wine

What is it? The most expensive bottle of white wine is Chateau d’Yquem (1811), a single bottle of which was sold for €86,000 in 2011. It would want to be pretty tasty…

How long would €300 million last? You could theoretically pick up 3500 bottles at that price, although you should probably reconsider your drinking habits if you’re clocking up that kind of bill at the off-licence.

Cheaper alternative: Don’t spend silly money on something that’s probably going to be corked when you open it.

Flying around the moon

What is it? SpaceX has agreed to take two passengers around the moon, a round trip that would take approximately a week to complete. This would be the ultimate one-upmanship on any of your friends who keep going on about their travels.

How long would €300 million last? The trip is expected to cost in the region of €71 million, so you’ll get at least four moon trips out of it. Or you could bring three mates if you’re feeling generous.

Cheaper alternative: You can probably pick up a telescope for €50. Point it at the moon and just use your imagination.

If you’ve always wanted to join the rich list, new lottery website Multilotto.ie gives you the chance to win massive overseas jackpots like the American PowerBall lottery. The next PowerBall jackpot is an incredible €300 million and the draw takes place on Sunday morning.
