Most of it was positive, although there were a few dissenting voices.
It would be stretching it to say that U2 (and one band member in particular) have steered clear of the limelight in their long and illustrious career to date, but it’s rare enough that fans of the band get to see them in as intimate a setting as they did on Tuesday night.
Bono and company featured in U2 at the BBC, a programme that is a combination of interview and live performance and has featured the likes of Adele, Sam Smith, Harry Styles and Michael Buble in the past.
The band’s appearance on the show comes off the back of the release of their latest album, Songs of Experience, a record has received decidedly mixed reviews, including a glowing one from our own Eric Lalor.
The reaction to U2 at the BBC wasn’t quite as divided (a number of viewers weren’t overly impressed by Cat Deeley’s style of interviewing), however, with most of the audience reacting positively to the sight and sound of one of the most famous bands of all time revisiting some of the most memorable numbers from an impressive back catalogue.

Cat Deeley interviewing U2 is like Joey Essex interviewing Steven Hawking. #U2attheBBC

Cat Deeley has done well to be the most annoying person on #U2AtTheBBC given her interview subjects.
