Crank meets Saw. Need we say more?
Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Upgrade.
Plot’s it all about? Logan Marshall-Green of Prometheus, Spider-Man: Homecoming and not being Tom Hardy fame stars as Grey Trace, a man whose wife is murdered in front of his eyes in a mugging that also leaves him paralysed.
With revenge on the brain, Trace is approached by a billionaire investor who offers him an experimental cure to his paralysis with an implant called STEM, but wouldn’t you know it, the implant transforms him into a high-tech killing machine.
As seen in the trailer, other such wacky upgrades involve the ability to shoot bullets from the palm of your hand, so it’s a sci-fi twist on Crank for a generation raised on Saw movies, essentially.
What’s more, the movie went down a treat at this year’s SXSW festival, so the buzz is strong for what could be a sleeper hit of the summer.
Starring: Logan Marshall-Green, Betty Gabriel, Harrison Gilbertson, Benedict Hardie.
Directed by: Leigh Whannell, who is also on script duties having previously penned the first three Saw films as well as a handful of Insidious movies, so he’s got form for this sort of thing.
Irish release date: TBA, though Upgrade hits American cinemas on 1 June.
Enjoy…
