Brace yourself, because there’s a brand new Transformers film crash, bang and walloping its way into Irish cinemas this festive season and you know what?
It’s actually great craic.
You weren’t expecting us to say that, were you?
Set in 1987, and with humour and heart in spades, Bumblebee is the sixth film in the live-action ‘bot-bashing saga and a prequel to Michael Bay’s 2007 Transformers.
With the phenomenally talented Hailee Steinfeld kicking ass in the lead role as Charlie (Bumblebee’s BFF), you’ll be delighted to hear this latest film is by far the best in the Transformers series since that first instalment over 10 years ago.
It tells the tale of a battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee finding refuge on earth as he tries to evade capture from the evil Decepticons and, seeing as the film is absolutely jam-packed with more ‘80s references than a Breakfast Club reunion party, make sure you wear your *insert atrocious ’80s fashion item here* when you head along to see it.
Coming along for the incredibly enjoyable ride with Steinfeld are director Travis Knight and WWE legend John Cena as a shady government operative, Agent Burns. You can check out our interview with Knight here and Cena here.
Ahead of the film’s release, we chatted with Ms Steinfeld about embarrassing hot dog suits, what it was like to star alongside a screaming Domhnall Gleeson in True Grit, and she revealed her thoughts on the possibility of a Pitch Perfect sequel, giving an answer that will be music to the ears of all a capella aficionados.
