Here’s what foreign viewers have made of Derry Girls and their takes are an absolute riot

Derry Girls Netflix

Catch yourself on.

As stated previously, Derry Girls is now available for Netflix viewers around the globe to get stuck into over Christmas and while it’s not available on the Irish version of the online streaming giant, you can watch it on All4.

Given the fact that the show is quintessentially Irish, plenty of fans are extremely interested in seeing how some of the gags and references have played out abroad but it’s credit to Lisa McGee’s writing that so much of the story and the jokes in the show are universal.

Yes, Derry Girls is set on Foyleside but good writing is just that. It transcends nationality, gender, age, and most other things.

Essentially, people in Pakistan are getting just as much a kick out of seeing Erin, Clare, Michelle, Orla, and James on screen as people in Downpatrick.

On that note, the general consensus is that it’s absolutely great. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter called it the comedy of the year while adding that “their episodic humiliations are our comedy gold.”

Hey, there’s no accounting for taste around the globe.
