A snow/ice weather warning has been issued for all of Ireland

Weather warning Saturday 2 February

It’s going to get chilly out there.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow snow/ice warning for the entire country ahead of what is expected to be a chilly week on the weather front.

Scattered sleet and snow showers are expected, most frequently across Ulster and Connacht, which will lead to accumulations of 1-2cm of snow in places.

Wintry showers are also expected in central and eastern areas of the country, with the odd flurry further south, before becoming confined to northern areas by late evening on Tuesday.

Icy and slippery conditions are expected throughout the country due to the accumulation of ice and snow on untreated surfaces.

The warning, issued at 11am on Monday, comes into effect at 9pm on Monday and will remain in place until 7pm on Tuesday evening.

As well as ice and snow, the forecast for the coming days also includes “the risk of the odd thundery burst” with temperatures dropping to below zero at night time and not hitting much higher than six degrees during the day.

It is expected to be slightly milder on Thursday and Friday before turning cold again heading into the weekend; more information can be found on the Met Éireann website.
