We can’t understand how this is a good idea.

The social media giant that is Twitter has announced that it will be making some massive changes to how the website will look to users.

According to NBC, in an attempt to promote “healthy conversation”, Twitter will remove the engagement counter showing the number of retweets or likes that a post has.

This essentially means that you will be unable to see how well any particular post is performing on the website, in terms of likes and retweets.

Speaking about the change, Keith Coleman, Twitter’s head of consumer product said: “We’re also actually working on changing the product and changing the policies to improve the health of the conversations”.

There will also be new features that enhance pictures and video on the app in an effort to encourage users to make more use of the cameras on their smartphones, a move that adds features similar to those found on the apps of some of its main competition such as Instagram and Snapchat.

Coleman said: “We’ve really intentionally tried to make the images and footage that are captured on the ground at an event look different than other images and videos that you might attach to a tweet”.

The news has not gone down well with people on Twitter so far, with many questioning what benefit these changes will actually have.
