Yep, 16. Handily one of the best Saturdays for movies in ages.
Saturdays are great, right? I mean, maybe not so much when you have to work but look, this is the life we chose.
If anything, it’s our privilege, nay, our duty to bring you a list of the very best – and sometimes, most ‘so bad they’re good’ – film options to flake out in front of the TV to.
So let’s not waste any further time. Here’s how it looks on this Saturday 12 October…
Jurassic Park – ITV2 – 6pm
The original and best.
Flight of the Navigator – SyFy – 7pm
A childhood classic for many.
Paddington – Film 4 – 7.10pm
An instant classic for many.
Fast and Furious 8 – ITV2 – 8.35pm
Dominic Toretto goes rogue.
The Drop – Film 4 – 9pm
Tom Hardy in a moody, brooding crime tale.
Moonlight – Channel 4 – 9pm
Excellent Oscar-winning drama that 100% deserved the win over La La Land.
12 Monkeys – SyFy – 9pm
In which Brad Pitt essentially auditions for Tyler Durden as a battered and beaten-down Bruce Willis tries desperately to save the world from a killer virus.
The Da Vinci Code – Sky One – 9pm
Man, remember when literally everyone you knew was reading that book?
Deepwater Horizon – RTÉ 2 – 10pm
Suitably propulsive account of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster with Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell providing the human factor.
The Expendables – Dave – 10pm
Sly Stallone gathers his superstar crew for the first time.
Tron: Legacy – BBC Two – 10.45pm
Middling return to the Tron universe that nonetheless looks absolutely spectacular and sounds great, too, thanks to a fun soundtrack courtesy of Daft Punk.
Warrior – Film 4 – 11.10pm
A movie known to make even the toughest bloke you know shed a tear, Warrior is terrific emotional fare as lost fighters Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton come to blows.
Unforgiven – TCM – 11.10pm
Exceptional Western that, admittedly, is on TV a lot lately, but it really is brilliant so fair enough.
The Client – BBC One – 11.35pm
Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones head up a satisfying John Grisham adaptation that finds a young witness fighting to survive.
Monster’s Ball – RTÉ One – 12.25am
Intense drama that saw Halle Berry land an Oscar for her troubles. Billy Bob Thornton and the late Heath Ledger provide support.
A Perfect Murder – TCM – 1.50am
Michael Douglas attempts to orchestrate what the title of the film says.
LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
